KASSANDRA’S SUN is a performance work by Helena Berglund, Nina Hansen and Maria Ciccia Smidl.

The work emerges from Smidl’s ongoing practice around NEGATIV SOL, where charcoal, gesture and surface form the basis for a sensuous and process-based investigation of image and space.

In the performance, this material approach unfolds in a shared, performative situation. Movements, live cello and presence extend the same field of inquiry, where traces, intensities and relations arise and dissolve. The sound is not illustrative, but operates as a resonant, physical force that shapes the space alongside the body and the image.

Smidl’s practice is grounded in an act of evocation — not as representation, but as a way of allowing images to emerge from within the material. A movement into a darkened field, where form is not fixed but sensed, and where imprints of an existential nature appear as fleeting, embodied traces.
